Professor Chris Reid

Christopher is a cardiovascular epidemiologist and clinical trialist with appointments as Research Professor in both the School of Public Health at Curtin University in Perth and the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University in Melbourne. He is Director of the Monash Centre of Cardiovascular Research and Education in Therapeutics and the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Cardiovascular Outcomes Improvement (2016-2020). He holds a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Principal Research Fellowship in addition to being the Chief Investigator on an NHMRC Program Grant (2016-2020) focusing on cardiovascular disease prevention. His major clinical trial activities include Director, Second Australian National Blood Pressure Study; Steering Committee member for HOPE3, ASPREE, STAREE, INTEGRATE, QUARTET, and ANBP2; and Chair of the Publications Committee for the ASPREE Trial.

Professor Anushka Patel

Anushka is a Professor of Medicine, UNSW Sydney and a cardiologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia. She undertook her medical training at the University of Queensland, with subsequent postgraduate research degrees from Harvard University and the University of Sydney.  As The George Institute’s Chief Scientist, she has a key role in developing and supporting strategic initiatives across all offices of the organisation globally. Her personal research interests focus on developing innovative solutions for delivering affordable and effective cardiovascular care in the community and in acute care hospital settings. She leads a number of trials globally in these areas.  Anushka is supported by a Principal Research Fellowship from the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Professor Derek Chew

Professor of Cardiology

Derek Chew is a clinical and interventional cardiologist, clinical trialist and outcomes researcher in cardiovascular medicine. His training in Interventional Cardiology was at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and he has completed a Masters of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. His PhD thesis explored the factors for improving heart attack care in Australia. His is currently Professor of Cardiology Flinders University, and is the Network Director of Cardiology for the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. He has led the Heart Foundation/CSANZ 2016ACS Guidelines writing group and served on the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines for the management of ACS Writing committee.

Professor Ralph Stewart

Ralph Stewart is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Green Lane Cardiovascular Service, Auckland City Hospital, and an Honorary Professor of Medicine at the University of Auckland.  He graduated from University of Otago and later trained in cardiology at the Hammersmith Hospital, London, UK.  He has since worked as a cardiologist in both Dunedin and Auckland, New Zealand, and has extensive clinical experience in cardiac imaging, interventional cardiology, coronary care, general cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation.  He is actively involved in clinical research, leading or contributing to investigator initiated studies and international clinical trials.  Until recently he was Chair of the New Zealand Cardiac Clinic Network, and he has been Chairman of the New Zealand Division of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.  He currently co-chairs the NZ Cardiology Registry Trials group.

Associate Professor Tom Briffa

Associate Professor Tom Briffa is a health researcher/ allied health professional and Director of the Centre for Health Services and Cardiovascular Research in the School of Population and Global Health.  He holds Adjunct positions at The George Institute for Global Health and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. Following a 15-year clinical career and a PhD from the National Health and Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Centre in Sydney, he has established a research career in clinical cardiovascular epidemiology and clinical trials built on administrative data linkage.
